about

Hi, I’m Paulo. Nice to meet you.

UX/UI and product designer from Florianópolis, Brazil. Almost nine years designing digital products, working remotely since 2020.

a bit about me

I’ve been designing digital products since 2017. I started in a public distance-education program at my university, grew into Head of UX at a product studio in Florianópolis, and since 2022 I’ve worked in-house with remote teams in Hong Kong and the US. Today I’m a Senior Product Designer at Playfull, where I designed the game-discovery platform page by page.

What I like most about design is the moment something confusing becomes obvious, and the people it takes to get there. I start from the problem, write down what success looks like, and stay close to engineering until it ships.

Away from the screen I ride my bike, travel the world and love getting to know different cultures and the people in them.

“Happiness is only real when shared.”

Graphic Design Supervisor · Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina · 2017 – 2020

My first time leading a team, while still at university: a multidisciplinary team, with people from design, illustration, video and web, on a public distance-education program for health workers across Brazil.

how i work

Four habits.

instead ofStarting in Figma

I start with the question. Interviews when there’s time, data and recordings always; the screen is the last thing I draw.

instead ofA handoff file

I write the spec: what we’re building, what we’re not, and the KRs that tell us if it worked. Engineers build it once.

instead ofWaiting for a perfect handoff

I use AI to prototype closer to the real product, so the team can see and test ideas sooner. Engineers review and build it.

instead ofDefending the design

I defend the outcome. If the data says the screen is wrong, the screen changes.

questions recruiters ask
Where are you based and when do you work?

Florianópolis, Brazil (UTC−3). Remote since 2020, with US and Asian teams since 2022; overlap with US Eastern covers the full morning and afternoon.

What roles are you looking for?

Senior UX/UI or product design roles, remote, in teams where design is part of product decisions.

When can you start?

Let’s talk about timing; I’m happy to plan the handover with my current team.

Have you led a team?

Yes, twice. At the university’s Distance Education Office I led a multidisciplinary team, with people from design, illustration, video and web. At abstrato.co I grew into Head of UX: I led a design team of nine, set OKRs and KPIs, and mentored juniors into project leads. At Earn Alliance and Playfull I wasn’t a lead, but I managed my own work: planning my demands, writing the specs and keeping the design roadmap.

How do you work with engineers?

Close and early. Before the design is final I share the spec, with the goal and the KRs, and a prototype, so engineers can point out what’s hard while it’s still cheap to change. During the build I stay around to answer questions and review what ships.

How do you use AI?

Mostly to prototype. With AI I can turn an idea into something the team can click through, not just look at, so we test it sooner. Engineers review it and build the real version. I also used it to build Nexus, our internal tools.

How do you measure if a design worked?

Every spec starts with the KRs that tell us. After launch I check them in Mixpanel and Google Analytics, and watch Hotjar recordings to see where people get stuck.

How do you do research?

Interviews and usability tests when there’s time; analytics, heatmaps and session recordings always. The screen is the last thing I draw.

Have you worked with design systems?

Yes. At Playfull I set up the design system the platform runs on and keep it growing with the product.

How do you handle feedback on your work?

I defend the outcome, not the screen. If the data or the team shows a better way, the design changes.

How do you work across time zones?

With clear written handoffs. At Earn Alliance I co-designed the Ally Pass with another designer, eleven hours apart: one of us picked up where the other stopped.

What products have you worked on?

Game discovery and rewards platforms, a battle pass, internal tools, and B2B and brand websites.

Which languages do you speak?

Portuguese (native), English (fluent, my daily working language) and Spanish (basic).
